On September 24, 2022, hundreds of protesters gathered in several groups in front of the “First Christian Church” in Katy, Texas to protest a “Drag Queen Bingo” event for children. The Church held the abominable show to raise money for clothing for children whose parents opposed their “gender transition.”
TFP-Texas brought over 50 protesters to its rally. It was the final protest among three held at the church. The first two attempted to dissuade the organizers from holding the event by showing the lack of support from the local people of Katy. Even with most traffic in front of the church honking in support of the campaign, the church officials doubled down, and held the “Drag Queen Bingo” anyway.
Several other groups held separate protests across the street from the church where the Drag event was held. In total, over 200 protesters were present. The other organizations included Moms for America, Mass Resistance and Save Texas Kids.
On the church grounds stood Antifa members dressed in black with face coverings, some of whom carried rifles and other weapons. Rainbow flags and the like marked the boundaries of the church property.
To the delight of all, the Harris County Police were present in force, keeping would-be attackers away from the peaceful, prayerful protests. 50 officers, thirty of which in full riot gear, occupied the median strips. Others stood by in vehicles.
The TFP rally also took place across the street, at a comfortable distance from the other groups. Despite soaring temperatures, the protesters expressed their joy at being there. The TFP standard, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima, the hymns of the bagpipes and the recitation of the rosary made for a serene, yet serious ambience. How different this scene was with the loud, ominous vulgarity of the Antifa crowd in front of the church.
At one point, everyone suddenly had trouble breathing and began tearing up and coughing.
A short distance down the street, someone set off what must have been a pepper bomb, the residue had blown downwind through the TFP rally. After twenty seconds, though it felt much longer, everything was fine. Everyone felt a surge of energy and continued the rosary at double the volume.
There were no further problems. The rally concluded with the singing of the Salve Regina in a respectful, militant tone. The TFP crowd thanked the brave police force by giving them three cheers. The police, visibly touched, saluted back in thanks.
