Many people turned to look as the 18-foot tall lion-emblazoned standard of Tradition, Family and Property-Louisiana slowly moved in the breeze. In the background, the hymn “Hail Holy Queen” echoed down the street as hundreds of pro-lifers marched through Pineville, Louisiana. Their message for state leaders was clear: Abortion must come to an end.
This year’s Life March on Saturday, February 5th drew pro-life families from all over the state. The crowd of pro-lifers congregated at Louisiana Christian University, where the march started with a prayer.
TFP Louisiana has been present since the first Central Louisiana Life March. And again, a good group of young members in distinctive red capes, were joined by friends and supporters from as far away as New Orleans.
The red TFP standard lead the way, followed by TFP members and friends who walked in procession behind a statue of Our Lady of Fatima while praying the Rosary.
The mile-long march was cheered by the TFP bagpipe and drum band, which played patriotic songs and Catholic hymns. One group of older ladies was so enthused by the music that they followed behind the band for the whole march. Afterward, they thanked the members effusively for the encouraging music.
The pro-life crowd arrived at the Pineville Riverfront, where a massive American flag overshadowed a speakers platform.
Several important people spoke to the gathered throng, including the state’s Catholic Attorney General, Jeff Landry.
Following the speeches, TFP member Elias Bartel approached Mr. Landry to shake hands. “Thank you for all you do.” Mr. Bartel said, “It’s good to see a Catholic man in office.”
Let us pray that our nation rejects the scourge of abortion, together with all the other moral evils that lead to it. And may we become one nation, united under God and His laws.
