Lafayette Locals Campaign to Keep Christ in Christmas

Christmas Eve finds countless people anxiously awaiting the dawn of the following day. However, how many people truly remember Him who was born in Bethlehem over two thousand years ago? How many keep Christmas simply as another holiday instead of a great, holy day?

Thankfully, this Christmas Eve in the Louisiana town of Lafayette, about thirty local citizens joined Tradition, Family, and Property – Louisiana (TFP) to make sure that Christ was not forgotten.

Choosing a well-used intersection, they raised banners proclaiming Christ as the source of the Christmas season, while evoking public response with Honk signs. The heavy intersection traffic responded enthusiastically with hundreds of honks as the campaign’s Christmas joy permeated the surroundings.

In keeping with the religious tone, the crowd prayed the full 15 mysteries of the Holy Rosary, interspersed with Christmas carols. One attendee commented on how the traditional Christmas carols spread so much joy, seen in the smiles of those listening from their cars. Several people even rolled down their windows and yelled, “Merry Christmas!” as they drove by. “In a world so decadent,” one man said, “it’s really good to see some real Christmas cheer! Keep Christ in Christmas!” Without a doubt, the rally was a special gift offered to Christ this Christmas, in the same country where so many others neglect Him.

Why Campaign for Christmas?

Unfortunately, Christmas time has been under attack for years.

“Xmas” and “the Holidays” are progressively replacing the word Christmas throughout the U.S., prompting store employees and social notables to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Inflatable silly Santa Clauses and other forms of secularized Christmas decor are overtaking front lawns, excluding Nativity scenes.

The Devil Attacks Christmas

Even worse this year are the direct attacks on Christmas made by the devil himself. In Concord, New Hampshire, a life-size statue of Baphomet with ten anti-commandments popped up overnight outside the State Capitol. Although hotly debated and broken several times, the satanic statue was remade and stood in glaring contrast to the Nativity scene, placed on the same grounds.

Also, at the State Capitol in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Minnesota Satanists Congregation erected their own satanic statue. It features a yellow and red phoenix with a head in the form of the satanic hand sign. Thanks be to God, this affront to Our Lord drew public protest as a group of faithful Catholics prayed and sang Christmas carols inside the rotunda.

The Public Response to Attacks on Christmas

Fortunately, this public response to the secular and satanic is not restricted to Minnesota. This year, 43 State Capitols have Nativity Scenes displayed on their grounds. And even more joyful news is the first time-ever Nativity Scene on the steps of the U.S. Capitol building.

However, this shift only came after years of campaigning to Keep Christ in Christmas.

This is why the members of Tradition, Family, and Property – Louisiana (TFP) and around thirty others stood at the intersection of Johnston St. and Ambassador Caffery Parkway to pray and exhort the public to Keep Christ in Christmas.

Divine Infant Jesus, Have Mercy on us!
