On March 13, 2019, members of Tradition, Family, Property – Louisiana attended a Texas Values rally called Texas Faith and Family Day at the State Capitol. The rally was the closing event of a morning program which included a conservative briefing session in the Capitol auditorium and a meet-and-greet with conservative legislators.
The guest speaker was Lt. Col. Allen West who spoke encouragingly about pro-family issues, using biblical language which delighted the crowd of several hundred people. Faced with abortion, same-sex “marriage” and the tyranny of transgenderism, he found inspiration in Romans 8:31 saying, “If God be for us, who is against us?”
Also speaking was Jeff Younger, a father fighting his ex-wife’s efforts to have their 6-year-old son go through “transition therapy” to become a “girl.” TFP members distributed the timely a flyer titled “10 Reasons Why Transgenderism is the Family’s Worst Enemy.”
While distributing flyers, a man recognized the trademark red TFP cape and asked, “Did you come all the way from Pennsylvania?” When told that TFP has a regional center in Houston, he replied “Houston? You need to be here in Austin!” implying that Austin was more liberal and needed a TFP presence more.
TFP volunteer Zechariah Long gave flyers to all the representatives on stage including Lt. Col. West who thanked him amicably.
The rally focused on pro-life issues, religious freedom, and the threat of transgender tyranny against the rights of parents. There is talk about banning the Bible in Texas since it “discriminates” against LGBT rights. Therefore, the official sign of the rally fittingly showed a Bible under a star with the words, “Come and Take It.” This sign was very symbolic as it was based on the first Texas battle flag which also had a cannon on it.
